Caitriona Moore: Painting

My work focuses on themes concerning characters, socialisation, moral fables and myths. I'm interested in the storytelling tradition-the aqcuisition and portrayal of odd social information; cultural hiccups or quirks in people's lives/stories and the transferral of information from the realm of reality to that of fantasy or fairytale. I work with these themes using traditional fairytale motifs, concepts and images mixed with images and text lifted from the world of consumerism and communication: Advertising, magazines, T.V. film, newspaper articles and literature. I'm interested in the way, when isolated from their original source, meanings change, and change further when juxtaposed with other images or texts. Finding things which seem to fit together, clues, codes and connections of themes between reality and fantasy and the undercurrents or social connotations involved which may affect the image: The sense of the slightly uncomfortable, weird or ambiguous."I don't want to probe too deeply into the gruesome potentialities of audience psychology after midnight but I suppose after a certain hour even Lassie may come to resemble a werewolf.
